Personalization

Personalization is the capability to provide users - customers, partners, and employees - with the most relevant Web experience possible. By giving users the option to register and set their own preferences, an eBusiness does both the user and itself a great service.

Given the right tools, business analysts can create personalization rules that act on this information, as well as data collected over time, so that a site intelligently responds to the user's identity and habits -- presenting information, functionality, and products aligned with the user's interests. Such a high level of service results in satisfied users, whether customers, partners, or employees.

Personalization comes in two forms, explicit and implicit.

Explicit Personalization

Explicit personalization is the "My Portal" model, where users pick functionality and lay it out on a personal home page.

Personalized "MyView"

Provides an intuitive, browser-based interface for end users to customize the content and resources of a site within a roles-based framework set by the site administrator.

Users can subscribe to information and applications. In addition to roles-based framework, we also have subgrouping for finer control.

Users can have personalized pages called MyViews which present the information and services chosen by the user.

User-Defined Color Palette

Users can change the look and feel of their user interface at any time by selecting from different color schemes.

Three-Columns Layout

Users have the freedom to organize content in up to three columns, meeting each user's specific organizational needs

Configurable Components

Users can choose from a variety of components offering interactive tools/services and customize them with their preferences, such as how many records to view on a page.

Component Selection

ePortal includes an application that enables users to pick components and lay them out on a page according to their preferences.

The same application allows corporate staff to "lock down" areas of the page with mandatory content and components, such as the corporate logo and navigation bar.

Implicit Personalization

Implicit personalization involves actively presenting different content and services to different users, based on their identity, information they have volunteered, or simply their navigation and click stream behavior.

User Profiles

In order to provide users with full service and maintain their preferences, user profiles must be created and continuously updated. The User Profile stores standard data about each user, as well as any custom data required for a particular business solution.

User Roles gives business analysts and marketing managers the power to create implicitly personalized content and pages. The tool is easy to use, and makes use of the underlying process personalization.

Presentation Agent

Detects browser capabilities, as well as operating system environment and language of the incoming browser. These characteristics automatically drive the display of the appropriate content and functionality for each visitor.

Supports virtually all browsers and browser-enabled devices (such as PDA's, cellphones, etc, including WAP devices). By using only server-side Java, it is compatible with all modern browsers, and eliminating any delays in downloading clients and client setup concerns.

Tracking and Profiling Services

Records the characteristics of content consumed by each visitor, and personalizes the experience by adapting navigation and content dynamically to suit each person's perceived needs. Can recommend content and products to a visitor based on the interests and choices of similar visitors.

This is effectively a matter of analyzing the log for that user & selecting new presentation based on that analysis. eContent tracks content resources. Resources defined for all user access, don't require login to track. Navigation and content is dynamically created for each user.  The content can be personalized as well. For example, present news and postings on the forum since the user's last visit to the page.

Notification Services

Provides a wealth of information that is immediately available within and outside the system to drive closed-loop marketing, timely analysis, and improved personalization. Automatic email notifications to promote sales to user, as well as to admin or marketing for sales follow up.
