FAQ Description

FAQ allows any authorized user to either ask questions or answer questions, depending on security, and is suitable for use as a community-maintained FAQ. The user both asking and answering questions can optionally be tracked, and questions and answers can be moderated before being available to readers if desired.

Customizable JSP pages are provided for the user interface, and links can be easily made to specific topics from any page, as all components take query parameters to customize their behavior.

Features

Unlimited FAQs
Allows you to build an unlimited number of FAQs.  For example in the Jcorporate site we use JSP forms to present FAQ specific to a particular project. Users can:

  • view FAQs
  • list FAQs in a selected category
  • display individually selected FAQs
  • submit FAQs
  • manage submitted FAQs

Multi-Level FAQ
FAQ supports multiple topics, and any number of levels of sub-topics. Within a topic or subtopic are questions, each of which may have any number of answers.

FAQ Administration

  • Allows you to create, update and delete FAQs. 
  • Allows ordering, moving and sort messages
  • Modify topic headings
  • Edit content 
  • Administer whether to verify messages before placing them online
  • and perform other administrative functions.

Forum and HelpDesk Integration
Question and Answers entered in both Forum and HelpDesk component modules are designed to be able to feed the FAQ as desired.

Expresso Security Management
By using the underlying Expresso Framework layer, you can create user groups and allocate them specific task rights. Using it's database object security, any portion or topic of the FAQ may be accessed by either all users or only authorized users, making it ideal for product knowledge bases and technical resource collections. A range of access rights enables you to distribute FAQ-related tasks to a high degree of specificity.

Entire groups of users can be collectively enabled or excluded from viewing or participating in specific FAQ or groups of FAQs. Open your FAQs to a global audience, or limit access to specific user groups.

Advanced Search Capability
Ties into the Search Engine component. The FAQ is designed to be integrated with the Smart Search Engine project to allow intelligent search of the knowledge base in natural language, using domain-specific terms and word groups, as appropriate to the domain.

Search messages by date range, title, author, keywords, topics. Searches are fast and on target, and result in a manageable list of relevant results.

Project Setup

The user interface can be servlets, JSP or applet/application, as required for the specific forum use.

The persistance mechanism (e.g. the way the FAQ stores it's information) is also configurable, with an example implementation using any JDBC database.

The FAQ components are designed to either be embedded into a larger application or used as a standalone eForum product.

This product is available by purchasing a Commercial source or object code license.  We welcome you to contribute any code changes to the project, and to involve yourself with collaborative development with our other community members.
